Nuova Era are a fundamental band in the Italian prog-rock scene: active between the late ’80s and the first half of the ’90s, they released in those years four albums which most of the prog enthusiasts consider unmissable for whoever nourishes even the slightest interest in the ‘progressive rock matter’.

“Return to the Castle” is no exception, and marks the true comeback for the group led by Walter Pini, the band’s main composer, here joined among others by the historical singer and guitarist Alex Camalti. Over twenty years have passed since “Il passo del soldato” (1995), a long period interrupted in 2010 by an eponymous release (AMS187CD, 2010), a compilation of already released songs, demos, new studio and live recordings.

Given these premises, the publication of “Return to the Castle” therefore represents an important event: a 75-minute symphonic progressive rock, sung in English for the first time in the history of the band, which ranges from baroque sections to other ones more dreamy and atmospheric. To the considerable length of this album, consisting of six long passages alternated with shorter interludes called ‘Carousels’, contribute many long-lasting instrumental parts. A must!

I Nuova Era sono una formazione fondamentale nel panorama del prog-rock italiano: attivi tra la fine degli anni ’80 e la prima metà dei ’90, furono autori in quel periodo di quattro album considerati dagli appassionati imperdibili per chi nutra un minimo di interesse nella ‘materia progressiva’.

“Return to the Castle” non fa eccezione, e segna il vero ritorno sulle scene della formazione capitanata da Walter Pini, da sempre principale compositore della band, qui raggiunto tra gli altri dallo storico cantante e chitarrista Alex Camalti. Oltre venti anni sono trascorsi infatti da “Il passo del soldato” (1995), un lungo periodo interrotto nel 2010 da una ominima release ‘transitoria’ (AMS 187 CD, 2010), una compilation di brani già editi, demo, nuove registrazioni in studio e dal vivo.

Date le premesse, la pubblicazione di “Return to the Castle” rappresenta perciò un evento importante: ben 75 minuti di rock progressivo sinfonico cantato in inglese per la prima volta nella storia della band, che spazia da frangenti barocchi ad altri più sognanti e atmosferici. Contribuiscono alla durata consistente di questo album, costituito da sei lunghi brani inframezzati da più brevi interludi – qui denominati ‘Carousel’ – numerose e lunghe sezioni strumentali. Un must!
